Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? Good. Here are honest answers to what we hear most often.

Repair vs. Replacement

How do I know if I need a repair or a full replacement? −

Generally, if the chip is smaller than a quarter and not in the driver’s direct line of sight, it can usually be repaired. Cracks longer than about 6 inches typically require replacement. That said, every situation is a little different. The depth of the damage, its location on the glass, and how long it’s been there all play a role. When in doubt, call us and describe what you’re seeing. We can usually tell you over the phone whether it sounds repairable.

Can a chip really spread into a full crack? +

Yes, and faster than most people expect. Temperature changes are the biggest culprit in Florida. When your glass heats up in the sun and then you blast the A/C, that thermal stress can turn a half-inch chip into a 12-inch crack within days. A chip repair costs a fraction of a replacement. Don’t wait.

What size crack or chip can be repaired? +

Rock chips up to about the size of a quarter can typically be repaired. Cracks up to 6 inches are often repairable depending on location and depth. Chips directly in the driver’s primary line of sight sometimes need replacement for optical clarity reasons even if the size would otherwise allow for repair. We’ll give you a straight answer when we see it.

Insurance & Cost

Is windshield repair or replacement free with insurance in Florida? −

Florida Statute 627.7288 requires insurance companies to cover windshield repair and replacement at zero deductible if you have comprehensive coverage. This is Florida’s “free windshield law.” If you have comp coverage, your replacement is almost certainly free.

Will filing a windshield claim raise my insurance rates? +

No. Under Florida law, windshield claims are zero-fault claims. Your insurance company cannot raise your premiums or penalize you in any way for filing one. There is no downside to using this benefit.

What if I don’t have comprehensive coverage? +

No problem, we offer competitive cash pricing. Rock chip repairs without insurance typically run $60–$100. Replacement prices vary by vehicle. Call us for a quote.

Which insurance companies do you work with? +

All of them. State Farm, Geico, Progressive, Allstate, USAA, Travelers, Farmers, Liberty Mutual, and hundreds of others. We file the claim directly and handle all the paperwork.

Do I need to contact my insurance company first? +

Nope. Just call us. We’ll verify your coverage and handle the claim from our end.

The Repair / Replacement Process

How long does a windshield repair take? −

Rock chip and crack repairs typically take 20–30 minutes. You don’t even have to go anywhere.

How long does a windshield replacement take? +

A full replacement takes about 60–90 minutes, plus approximately one hour of cure time before the vehicle is safe to drive.

Can I drive right after my windshield is replaced? +

Give it at least an hour. We’ll tell you a specific safe drive-away time when we finish, based on temperature and humidity conditions that day.

Do you offer mobile service? +

Yes, everything we do is available mobile. We come to your home, office, or anywhere in Marion County.

What type of glass do you use? +

OEM and OEM-equivalent glass from vetted suppliers. All glass meets or exceeds Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. We don’t use cheap aftermarket glass.

After Your Service

Is there a warranty? −

Yes. Lifetime warranty on all workmanship. If there’s a leak, a defect, or anything wrong with the installation, we fix it at no charge.

What should I do to take care of my new windshield? +

● Keep your car out of car washes for 24 hours
● Leave a window slightly cracked for the first 24 hours to equalize pressure
● Don’t remove the retention tape around the edges for at least 24 hours
● Avoid slamming doors for the first day, fresh urethane doesn’t need that kind of stress

Do you recalibrate ADAS systems? +

Yes. Many newer vehicles have cameras and sensors near the windshield that power lane departure warning, automatic braking, and other safety features. These need recalibration after a replacement. Just tell us your year, make, and model when you call and we’ll confirm whether it’s needed for your vehicle.

Still have questions?

Still have questions? Just call. We’d rather spend five minutes on the phone with you than have you driving around with a crack in your windshield.
